We're here!!!
No problems getting from Hong Kong to Viet Nam. About an hour's drive from the Hanoi Airport to our hotel, the Somerset Grand (right next door to the infamous Hanoi Hilton).
On first impressions, Viet Nam is a rural country retro-fitting itself for modernity. Telephone and power lines are strung along city streets, bunched up and left as if improvised by the utility. Motor scooter is the transportation of choice - they are everywhere. Helmets are now mandatory, although ranging in degree of protection offered. Masks to protect your nose and throat from the pollution are optional, although quite popular.
By chance we got a two-room apartment for a one-room rate. In the lobby, it's like the haven for folks like us - we met two couples who picked up their new young uns Monday.
We are out of the rainy season and into the warm muggy season.
